BARISAL BACKWATER TOUR

Barisal, the southern division of Bangladesh, is awash with rivers and canals. Hundreds of them flow through this division and the result is a deliciously lush landscape with more shades of green than you ever imagined. Traveling by boat is the way of life here. In this short tour we take you to explore the rivers and canals of Barisal by country boats during monsoon when everything is green on it’s fullest, and rivers and canals are full of water. You’ll take an overnight ferry to Barisal, and explore it’s canals and rivers next 2 days on country boats and smaller ferries. Here you’ll see endless guava gardens on it’s full ripen season, floating guava markets, floating rice market, boat market where they sell wooden boats, traditional life on both side of the rivers and canals, bazaars, birds, and many more things. You’ll discover rural Bangladesh on this 2 days tour to Barisal. If you have a plan to visit Sundarbans, you can catch a paddle steamer from Barisal after finishing this tour early morning for Hularhat, visit 15th century Muslim City Bagerhat and its 60 Domed Mosque on the way, and continue to khulna or Mongla for your boat to Sundarbans. This is the perfect tour to combine with your Sundarbans Tour. Also you can take any of our day tours in the day you are taking ferry for convenience, so that a guide of us will pick you up from your hotel, take on a full day tour, and see you off at Sadarghat river station and help you embark the overnight ferry to Barisal.

ITINERARY:

Night-1 Our guide will pick up you from Hotel and help to board the ferry/Rocket. You will keep your staffs inside the sleeping cabin and come outside to the see the beauty. Ferry/Rocket will leave Dhaka 6.30 p.m. You will stay Ferry cabin overnight.

Day 1: The ferry/Rocket will reach at 6 am in the morning. Our guide will pick up you from Ferry and immediately transferred to the Hotel. Take rest 1-2 hours. Then will go out to see the city. Will visit Church, the busy local bazaars, river ports. At 11 am, will take public ferry to Bhola. The ferry will go through small and big rivers and you will enjoy the riverside beauty seating on Ferry roof. After 2.5 hours, reach to Bhola. Walk around that area and come back same way. Evening, return to Barisal and stay overnight.

Day 2: Early morning guide will come and pick up you to start backwater and village trip. At first will go to Banaripara and ride small country boat. The boat will start running though tiny canals. You will see the village beauty of both sides of the canals. Will visit some floating markets and get off some small locality to meet the people. Then visit Pottery home, paddy field, battle leaf garden and many more village activities. At 4 pm : Head to Barisal to take the Ferry to Dhaka. Stay Ferry over night.

Day 3: Early morning (6 am) ferry will reach Dhaka Sadarghat and end the tour.

Remarks on Barisal Backwater Tour

• Although monsoon is the best time for this tour (mid July to mid September), we can arrange it any time of the year.
• Floating rice market could be seen only on Saturdays and Tuesdays.
• Boat market could be seen only on Fridays.
• Accompanying guide on the ferry.
• This tour is all about floating ideally and relaxing. There is not much activities on this tour.

 Dhaka – Barisal – Kuakata  – Dhaka

ITINERARY

Day 01: Dhaka to Barisal by Motor Launch (Ferry)

After arrival at Sadarghat accommodates The Motor Launch (Ferry) and start cruise at 08:30 pm. After getting on Ferry you can take a sit in front your cabin to enjoy the view around you. Within an hour you will join the main stream and will be out of the city and when the actual trip starts, it’s a great feeling by the side of railing under the open sky, the Moon & the Stars passing by. Winds are blowing very strongly and the ship itself is dancing with the waves. You can take a cup of tea there. Also, there is a variety of foods for dinner; you can order food in your Cabin. Dinner and night pass in the 1st class AC cabin on the Motor Launch (Ferry).

Day 02: Day Long Activities in Kuakata

You may rise early from bed to see how the riverine life started to awake, fishing activities. Arrive Barisal early in the morning like 06.00 am. Drive to Kuakata (The Only Natural Sea Beach in the Country) within 4 (Four) hours from Barisal by AC Car and Transfer to Hotel. After lunch cruising by Reserve Fiber Boat towards East Side of Sunderban like Fatra Mangrove Forest – Famous for Timber Wood – You will watch Monkey, Jackals and one type of small Tiger name “Bagdas” and Red Crab Island – Nest and Activities of Read Crabs, through the channel of Bay of Bengal. Back to beach and in the evening enjoy the most enchanting and colorful sunset. Dinner and night stay at State Owned Motel in Kuakata.

Day 03: Enjoy Beach and Islands Trip

Wake up early in the morning and go to beach to enjoy the gorgeous beauty of sun rise. The best sight is visible from Crow Land of Gangamoti Reserve Forest (Here you will watch different shorts of Birds). After an early breakfast visit beach side spots like Buddhist Temple (One of the Biggest in the Country), Fishermen and Rakhaine Tribal Village to see their life style (Cloth Weaving), Jhau Ban / Coconut Orchards etc. Take lunch and drive for Barisal at 03.30 pm by AC Car. Reach Barisal at 07.30 pm and check in Hotel. Dinner and over night at Hotel in Barisal City.

Day 04: River Cruise, Back Water and Visit Floating Markets

Wake up early in the morning and proceed for breakfast, after then proceed to “Floating Markets” by a traditional engine boat, where you will enjoy The Best Back Water in the country. Beside this here you will watch floating sugarcane gardens and hog palm gardens and so on. Miles after miles you will enjoy this back water trip. You will be pass lots of canals in a day. Shadow of many big trees falling on these canals like a Swamp Forest. There are 40 plus villages including these floating orchards. Take lunch in a village restaurant and start for the HUB for Sundarban Timber and Nipa Palm Leaves, name Swarupkathi. Return Barisal at 05.00 pm. Dinner and overnight at hotel in Barisal.

Day 05: Barisal City Sightseeing and Day Time River Cruise to Bhola Island

At morning take your breakfast and then proceed to famous Hilsha Fish Market to watch the full operation to unload fishes from fishing boats up to loading goods truck. Then proceed to 150 years old Brojo Mohon Collage where you can watch one of the green campus belongs to 25 (Twenty Five) thousand student’s footprint and OLD MARKET and CHWAK BAZAAR where you can watch several hundred trade activities within few hundred yards. Then start day time river cruise for Bhola Island – 4 hours journey (Return) – take Lunch and at late afternoon visit Epipheny Church ( One of the largest church in Asian Continent). Take Dinner at 07.00 pm and check out from hotel for embark in the Motor Launch (Ferry). Ferry will depart from Barisal river port at 08.30 pm, overnight at Ferry in AC 1st Class Cabin and reach Dhaka at next day morning. Tour ends.
